This term we are participating in a 1 Minute Film Competition. We are learning how to analyse films and movie scripts to see how messages can be shared.
The theme for the competition is DIVERSITY and we have to include diversity in our film in some way. Diversity can be included as the main plot, as the something in the background, as something someone says or another way. If you win the competition, your team wins $1000 to share! The link to the competition is here.
We are following the writing process and we are going to make an awesome script. We will need to start by planning and drafting, then revising and editing. We will do lots of group conferencing with our group and teacher. Then we will publish it and you might be able to view it.
Our class will be making scripts for our short movies. Some groups might not have dialogue in their script – you don’t need dialogue to send a message. We read the scripts for famous movies like Up and Wall-E to understand how to write a script. Later that day, we had to write a script for a short film made by Pixar, called Partly Cloudy. Try making a detailed script yourself! It’s harder than you think!
The next day, we got to make our own 8 frames of a storyboard, like real movies do (but just with a lot more frames). We had to carefully write the details into a script, then create frames (still pictures from a movie) to match. We watched the Pixar film on how they made their storyboard for Toy Story to learn about how the experts do it. Watch the film by Pixar here.
From here we are getting into groups and writing a script and making a storyboard for our Diversity film. Watch our blog for more updates on our films…
